1 Membership

1.1 Membership consists of:

  1. The chair appointed by the Executive Director in consultation with NJC, for a three year term, renewable.
  2. Two members appointed by the National Judging Committee (NJC), for a three year term, renewable.
  3. The NJC-NSFC Liaison Member.
  4. The Executive Director ex officio.
  5. The current CWSF Chief Judge or designate ex officio.

1.2 In consultation with the Executive Director and the Chair of the NJC, the chair of the Ethics Committee may invite others to join, so as to provide the full range of expertise required, for a term of three years.

2 Terms of Reference

2.1 The committee is responsible for reviewing the policies governing research involving human participants and animals. After consultation with the NJC and other experts with the appropriate professional background, the committee will make recommendations for change as required.

2.2 The committee examines any project or project proposal submitted to it from a Regional Science Fair Ethics Committee to assess the project’s compliance with Youth Science Canada policy for the involvement and safety of human participants and animals and rule on its eligibility for science fair competition.

2.3 In collaboration with the CWSF Chief Judge or designate, the committee ensures that all projects submitted to the CWSF are examined for compliance with Youth Science Canada policy for the involvement and safety of human participants and animals.

2.4 The committee is responsible for maintaining the area of the Youth Science Canada website used to educate the science fair community on the ethical involvement of human participants and animals.

2.5 The committee reports to the National Judging Committee on a regular basis.

2.6 The committee reports annually to the Youth Science Canada Board of Directors.
